The first UFC show of 2014 will be in Singapore, and according to MMA Junkie it looks like the main event is already set. Verbal agreements are in for welterweights Jake Ellenberger and Tarec Saffiedine to face off on January 4th in the southeast Asian country.
Ellenberger (29-7) put forth a very disappointing performance against Rory MacDonald at UFC on Fox 8, showing virtually no sign of effective offense while failing to solve MacDonald's jab. It was the complete opposite of his easy destruction of Nate Marquardt at UFC 158.
Saffiedine (14-3) closed out Strikeforce as the promotion's final welterweight champion after dominating Nate Marquardt en route to a unanimous decision. The Belgian was scheduled to make his UFC debut against Robbie Lawler on the same UFC on Fox 8 card in Seattle, but pulled out with an injury. His inactivity coupled with other results has sent him out of the top 10 UFC rankings, while Ellenberger is currently placed at #4.
No word yet on a venue for this card, which will air on Fox Sports 1.
