UFC on FX 7 has thankfully been clean as far as injuries to main card fighters, but the preliminary card has lost two more men, as Roger Hollett and George Roop are out of their respective bouts in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
UFC on FX 7 marks the first show of 2013 for the UFC, and while the main card (obviously what everyone wants to see) has remained injury-free, the preliminary card continues to change. Roger Hollett, scheduled to fight Wagner Prado in the 205 lbs division, tore his bicep and was removed from the card. In the bantamweight division, George Roop -- yes, he was going to fight at bantamweight again -- also suffered an injury and his fight with Yuri Alcantara is off.
Hollett debuted at UFC 152 against Matt Hamill, and the Canadian dropped a unanimous decision in a fight that we can confirm definitely happened. As for Roop, he hasn't fought since Cub Swanson's KO of him at UFC on FOX 2. Prior to his bantamweight plans, he was scheduled to fight Antonio Carvalho at 145 lbs in July, but Roop pulled out with an injury.
Replacing Hollett and Roop respectively are Ildemar Alcantara and Pedro Nobre. Ildemar was the #5 ranked middleweight in the 2012 BE Scouting Report, and obviously he's moving up in weight to fight Prado. Nobre fought as a featherweight on TUF: Brazil, but Marcos Vinicius knocked him out in the entry round, thus eliminating Nobre before he could reach the TUF house.
In total, there have been 5 injuries on the FX 7 prelims, and one fighter (Michael Kuiper) was removed from the card after 2 of his opponents were stricken by the injury bug.
