One of the biggest fights of 2013 will be taking place in the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on April 27th, and the event now has a number and a name assigned to it. UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen will see UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defending his title against opposing TUF 17 coach Chael Sonnen in the main event. No other bouts have been announced for the card as of yet. MMA Junkie confirmed the news earlier today.
Jones (17-1) picked up the LHW title by defeating Mauricio Rua at UFC 128 in March 2011, and has successfully defended it four times since. His last win came over Vitor Belfort at UFC 152. Sonnen (27-12-1) is coming off a second loss to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 148. He famously stepped up to fight Jones at UFC 151 after Dan Henderson got hurt, but the champ turned down the fight and the event was canceled. Sonnen hasn't competed at light heavyweight in seven years, but managed to talk his way into a TUF coaching gig and a title shot nonetheless.
The Ultimate Fighter 17 debuts on FX on January 22nd with Jones and Sonnen in the coaching spots. The show will wrap up around the time of the PPV.
