UFC 158: St. Pierre vs. Diaz fight card

Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

We're all hoping that 2013 isn't as injury-riddled as 2012 was, especially with this March 16th PPV in Montreal, QC, Canada. Welterweights are the theme here, much like the UFC 146 show revolved around heavyweights. The main event is our 3rd attempt at watching Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz. Carlos Condit, who defeated Diaz but lost to GSP, rematches Rory MacDonald in the co-main of their great fight back in 2010, which ended in a dramatic 3rd round TKO for Carlos. Johny Hendricks battles Jake Ellenberger in the 3rd fight, and it's a fight that they strangely didn't even bother to put on the event poster.

The choice of Diaz has been a very controversial choice. While it is true that he did lose to Carlos Condit and fail the post-fight drug test, he had to be given this fight, as Frankie Edgar and Chael Sonnen were tied up with their title fights, rendering them unable to also get a title shot at welterweight. Johny Hendricks has voiced his displeasure over his title shot snub, but all he did was defeat Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, and Martin Kampmann over an 11 month span.

We've also got plenty of Strikeforce guys coming over, including Jordan Mein and Bobby Voelker in their respective bouts against Dan Miller and Patrick Cote.

Here's the current card below:

NOTE: Before you complain that Patrick Cote is the 4th fight on the card, this is not a complete event. There are still fights to be booked and the bout order to be confirmed. Beyond the top 3 fights I listed, everything else isn't really in any particular order.

Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz (WW title)
Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald
Johny Hendricks vs. Jake Ellenberger
Patrick Cote vs. Bobby Voelker
Dan Miller vs. Jordan Mein
Yves Jabouin vs. Johnny Eduardo
John Makdessi vs. Daron Cruickshank
Chris Camozzi vs. Nick Ring
