French middleweight Francis Carmont is undefeated in the UFC, and following his win over Tom Lawlor, he wants a major step up in competition.
Francis "Limitless" Carmont is a perfect 4-0 in the UFC, with 2 submissions and 2 decision wins. His last fight was a fairly drab and dour encounter with Tom Lawlor at UFC 154 in Montreal, which Carmont took by split decision. Nevertheless he's on a hot streak, and that normally merits stronger opposition. Over the weekend he tweeted Ariel Helwani with his wishes to fight a top middleweight at UFC 158, also scheduled for Montreal:
@arielhelwani To start 2013, I'll wish to make a good fight.Give me the opportunity to fight Munoz or Okami at UFC 158 in Montreal
— Francis Carmont (@franciscarmont) January 5, 2013
That's one hell of a jump from Carmont's prior UFC opponent list. Munoz last fought in July, losing by 2nd round KO to Chris Weidman in a fight that wasn't stopped by Josh Rosenthal until Christmas. He's been healing a foot injury and is still considered a top 10 middleweight. Former #1 contender Okami won his rematch with Alan Belcher at UFC 155, and is still regarded as one of the best 185ers in the world.
Given how bad the Lawlor fight was, I highly doubt that they book Carmont against either one of those guys (especially Okami), but instead someone in the general rankings area of Rousimar Palhares, C.B. Dollaway, and other MWs who don't do anything to threaten the top of the division but are good enough to be regular UFC mainstays.
