Saturday night, the top promotion in Women's MMA put down their fourth event with Invicta FC 4: Esparza vs. Hyatt. Less than a week before the event, Bec Hyatt replaced Claudia Gadelha who suffered a broken nose in training. Despite the lack of preparation, Hyatt rose to the challenge and gave Carla Esparza a hell of a fight despite a unanimous decision victory.
There was a ton of fun WMMA action throughout the night, including Bantamweight Alexis Davis avenging her loss to Shayna Baszler with a 3rd round technical rear naked choke submission. Shortly after the event, Invicta president Shannon Knapp announced the bonus winners for the night:
Fight of night Alexisand Shayna, Sub of night Rose, KO of the night Veronica! :)— Shannon Knapp (@shanknapp) January 6, 2013
Davis and Baszler put on a great back and forth fight before Alexis locked on the submission. Picking up sub of the night was no small feat for Rose namajunas, either. This was her professional debut and she locked Emily Kagan in an RNC in the final round of their fight. Veronica Rothenhausler impressed as well with her first round KO of Katalina Malungahu.
For picking up the best fight of the event, Davis and Baszler took home an extra $1500. The other OTN winners brought home an additional $1000.
