Much like his victory over Joe Lauzon, Anthony Pettis proved he was on another level than most other Lightweight strikers.
This Lightweight fight had been rumored and built for a long time. Originally Pettis and Cerrone were supposed to fight at UFC 150, but an injury to Pettis forced him out of the contest. Instead Cerrone knocked out friend and former teammate Melvin Guillard. Pettis underwent surgery and the fight was finally scheduled for UFC On Fox 6.
Calling out Pettis backfired hard for the cowboy. The former WEC champion blasted Cerrone with body shots throughout their short bout. Consistent with his usual level of creative, Pettis worked the cage into his striking repertoire with a knee from the clinch against the cage. In the final combination that put Donald down, "Showtime" Pettis landed a powerful kick to the body that buckled Cerrone. He followed up with ground and pound, but it was mostly superfluous as the ref was already moving in to stop the fight.
Anthony Pettis def. Donald Cerrone via TKO at 2:35 of round 1
