Rafael Suanes-US PRESSWIRE
The UFC on Fuel 7 co-main event has been changed up. Featherweight Dennis Siver has withdrawn from his bout with Cub Swanson, and has been replaced by Dustin Poirier. The UFC's UK twitter account confirmed the news just a few minutes ago:
#UFCLondon2013 update: @dennissiver has pulled out of his bout against @cubswanson and will be replaced by @dustinpoirier, a FOTN contender?
— UFC United Kingdom (@UFC_UK) January 17, 2013
They don't state why Siver pulled out, but you'd have to guess it was some sort of injury. Poirier (13-2) is coming off a first-round submission victory over Jonathan Brookins at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale last month, and is 5-1 in the UFC overall.
Swanson (18-4) stated that his bout with Siver was supposed to be a number one contender's bout, but it's unclear if the same stipulation would be in place for this bout with Poirier. Dustin's only loss in the UFC thus far was to Chan Sung Jung at UFC on Fuel 3, which apparently earned the Korean Zombie a title shot. He's been on the shelf since then though, so who knows what the deal is. Either way, I actually like this fight even more than the original.
Update: Siver pulled out with an inner mensical tear in his knee, as per www.groundandpound.de.
