The rape of a female Team Lloyd Irvin student by two male TLI students has caused an understandable stir in the mixed martial arts and Brazilian jiu-jitsu communities. Between the horrors of that case and the uncovering of the possible -- although unconfirmed due to a refusal to comment by Irvin -- involvement of Irvin himself in a 1989 rape, there was some question of if there would be any significant fallout for TLI.
It appears that the first major move will be one of the largest Team Lloyd Irvin affiliates cutting ties according to Elyse Goldberg, one of BETA's BJJ instructors.
From Elyse's Facebook:
Again, Beta is one of the largest TLI affiliates so this is a big move.
BETA has not released an official statement yet. I contacted the academy but they're in the process of moving and were unable to provide any further details.
However they did confirm the move to someone on their Facebook. Answering a question of if they are no longer with TLI with "no, we are not."
