Yesterday it was confirmed that UFC on FOX 7 would be headlined by the UFC lightweight title fight between champion Ben Henderson and Strikeforce LW champion Gilbert Melendez. It marks the 3rd consecutive FOX card to have a championship bout as the main event, and the likely co-main event between Frank Mir and Daniel Cormier has also been confirmed by Yahoo's Kevin Iole.
Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole has confirmed that Melendez vs. Henderson and Mir vs. Cormier will happen on April 20 at HP Pavilion in San Jose for UFC on Fox 7.
Former UFC champion Mir was due to fight Cormier in Strikeforce in November, but a Mir injury not only canceled the fight but was one of the leading reasons for the card's cancellation. Mir last fought in May, losing by TKO to then-champion Junior dos Santos at UFC 146.
Cormier still had one fight left with Strikeforce to fulfill, and he satisfied those requirements by comfortably beating Dion Staring this past Saturday. Daniel will be fighting in the same city where he trains, as the card is in San Jose, where American Kickboxing Academy is located.
