First, a quick recap of the Jeremy Stephens situation. The UFC Lightweight was arrested back in October just before his scheduled bout with Yves Edwards at UFC On FX 5. Minneapolis authorities picked him up on a year-old warrant from Polk County, IA, his home state. The warrant stemmed from a 2011 incident and Stephens was charged with two felonies - willful injury causing serious injury (class C), burglary in the first degree (class B) - and a serious misdemeanor in assault causing bodily injury.
After approximately 2 weeks, Stephens was released from custody. He was scheduled for a pretrial conference for December 13, only 5 days after getting knocked out by Yves Edwards at UFC On Fox 5. Prior to the conference Stephens was scheduled for a jury trial on January 9.
However, according to Polk County's Online Court Records, at the pretrial conference Stephens waived his right to a speedy trial. Instead of the January date, he'll appear in court on April 8, 2013 as you can see here:
In the meantime, Stephens has confirmed that he'll try his hand in the Featherweight division after dropping his last 3 fights at 155 lbs. The UFC has not indicated whether or not Lil Heathen will make his 145 lb. debut before his trial this spring.
