UFC on FX 7: Is Vitor Belfort a 'Navy SEAL on a mission' or a 'cheater' as Michael Bisping says?

Chris Trotman

Heading into their UFC on FX 7 Middleweight headliner, Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping are ramping up the pre-fight chatter.

UFC Middleweight Micheal Bisping has been promised a title shot against Anderson Silva if he can beat Vitor Belfort in the headliner of UFC on FX 7: Belfort vs. Bipsing on Jan. 19, 2013 at the Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Getting past Belfort is easier said than done though and both fighters are racheting up the pre-fight smack talk.

Bisping blames Belfort in this SporTV interview (translation via Middle Easy):

I was very surprised. I have a lot of respect for Vitor, he's a former UFC tournament winner and a former light-heavyweight champion and one day he'll be in the Hall of Fame. I train at the gym where his sponsors work [?] and that's not a problem, so I thought we were going to be respectful to each other, but we were in Brazil talking to the press in separate rooms and I heard from brazilian press that he had called me a hooligan. I was being respectful and, for him to call me a hooligan, when all of his biggest wins in the UFC came from illegal shots to the back of the head... He is a cheater. He's been hitting people in the back of the head for years and I'm training to defend myself exactly from that, because I know he's gonna try that again.

What made me lose respect for Vitor was the fact that, after he insulted me behind my back, he sent me a text message telling me he didn't mean that and even wrote a 'LOL' and put some smileys in the text. At least admit to what you've said about me, you're a grown man. We're not friends, we're not school mates, so stick your text messages up your ass.

For his part, Belfort is not getting distracted because he's, well, he's like a Navy SEAL, per Bleacher Report:

"I'm really focused to fight and it's more like an outside vision. I'm like a Navy SEAL going to war. I'm not focused on the politics, just give me the mission and let me accomplish it.

"When a mission is given to a Navy SEAL, they say turn your back and let me do what I'm here to do. Now this fight is my mission. I don't care about the politics or anything else. I'm focused on accomplishing the mission. I'm very focused right now."

Navy SEAL vs. hooligan....who ya got?
