MMA fans and media alike are constantly debating who is the greatest fighter of all time. The sport is still pretty young so it's not like there are a ton of contenders, but the same few names usually pop up in the discussion - Anderson Silva, Randy Couture, Fedor Emelianenko, Georges St. Pierre. Even Jon Jones has quickly climbed the ranks and gets some GOAT attention. These are the names that usually come up amongst a wide variety of fans from across the world though. What if you just took a sample from one country?
Let's go with Brazil, for example.
Porto de Vale Tudo, a big Brazilian website, conducted a month-long poll in August asking one simple question - who is the greatest fighter of all time? You'd probably think that Brazilian fans would choose...well, a Brazilian fighter. But they didn't. And it was an absolute landslide for the eventual winner - The Last Emperor himself. Fedor Emelianenko. Check out the results:
Frankly, I'm shocked that Emelianenko blew away the competition here. I would expect nothing less if we did a similar poll on a site like this (vote below!) but in Brazil? I thought Anderson would have dominated. Guess not. I'm also surprised Dan Henderson did as well as he did, considering he has lost to five different Brazilians.
Anyway, cast your vote on who you think the greatest fighter of all time is after the jump, and defend your guy in the comments. Keep in civil though please.
