UFC heavyweight Stefan Struve did what he needed to do against Stipe Miocic at UFC on Fuel TV 5: Struve vs. Miocic. The lanky 7'0" Dutchman finished the Croation with a flurry of uppercuts against the cage late in the second round.
UFC on Fuel TV 5 Results: Stefan Struve def. Stipe Miocic via TKO at 3:50 of the 2nd round.
Miocic moved in at will and got inside on Struve early, landing punches with both hands. Struve answered with kicks but struggled to keep Miocic out of his grill. Miocic peppered Struve's abdomen but ate a few knees to the face from the rangy Struve.
Struve established his jab early in the second round. Once the big Dutchman had control of the range, he began to hurt Miocic but Miocic hung in and hurt Struve in return. Struve connected with uppercuts then followed up with combinations. But everytime he hurt Miocic, the Croation would battle back until Struve finally put together the winning combination of brutal uppercuts. Miocic slipped down into a blow and Struve never let him recover. Miocic was out on his feet for several shots but finally stumbled down and Herb Dean jumped in to stop the carnage.
Miocic falls to 9-1 and 3-1 in the UFC Heavyweight division. He's a small heavyweight so might consider moving down to the 205 lb class.
Struve improves his UFC record to 9-3 and 25-5 overall. Dana White has been talking him up as a future title contender but I think he's still a win or two away from challenging for UFC gold.
