Bloody Elbow reviews & rates the UFC 152 Middleweight bout between Michael Bisping and Brian Stann.
In the third UFC 152 PPV bout, middleweight contenders Michael Bisping and Brian Stann faced off for a possible title shot against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Bisping was able to survive an early scare to take a unanimous decision victory. After the bout, Dana White was noncommittal about Bisping actually getting the shot, mainly due to the uncertainty surrounding the champion at the moment.
Stann got off to a good start, stuffing Bisping's shots and hurting him with a right late in the first round. From there on though, Bisping was able to mix up his wrestling and striking well enough to keep Stann off balance, and he took rounds two and three on the scorecards. All three judges had it 29-28 for the British fighter.
What was the high point of this fight?
Stann rocking Bisping late in the first, and swarming for the finish. He didn't get it, but Bisping was in some definite trouble for a few seconds there.
Where do they go from here?
Bisping is likely going to have to fight again before he gets a title shot. Who could that be against? The winner of the Chris Weidman vs. Tim Boetsch fight makes the most sense. The winner of Alan Belcher vs. Yushin Okami could be a possibility as well.
Stann will have to go back to the drawing board. A bout against Mark Munoz or the loser of the Rousimar Palhares vs. Hector Lombard fight would work.
Watch now, later, or never?
Later. It's an entertaining fight, but it's not going to blow you away with excitement.
