In the first PPV bout of UFC 152, Cub Swanson picked up his third win in a row with a first round knockout of Charles Oliveira. Oliveira got the fight to the ground early, but Swanson was able to buck him off and get back to his feet. Cub landed two vicious punches to the body, then clocked Do Bronx with a right to the jaw. Oliveira appeared to be okay as he took a step back, but then he just collapsed to the mat in pain. The referee stopped the bout at 2:40 of round one. Swanson won a $65,000 bonus for the knockout of the night.
Swanson has looked excellent since a submission loss to Ricardo Lamas in his UFC debut, finishing three opponents before the end of the second round. Oliveira was off to a 2-0 start at featherweight, but that was brought to a halt with the loss. Oliveira also had trouble making weight for the bout.
What was the high point of this fight?
The knockout. The delayed reaction was pretty strange.
Where do they go from here?
Swanson will continue his move up in the UFC featherweight division. I'd love to see him face the winner of the Dennis Siver vs. Eddie Yagin bout at UFC on Fuel 5.
Oliveira is still young and talented, but this was a major setback for him. A bout with fellow UFC 152 runner-up Jimy Hettes would be pretty interesting.
Watch now, later, or never?
Now. Sick knockout in under three minutes. What's not to like?
