Vitor Belfort came into his UFC light heavyweight title bout with Jon Jones as a huge underdog. He didn't get the win, but he did give Jones the biggest scare of his career early when he locked on an armbar from the bottom. Jones was in real trouble, but he escaped. After that, it was all Bones. Elbows opened Belfort up, and Belfort's continual choice of pulling guard led to more punishment. Finally, after he did it again in the fourth round, Jones grabbed onto a kimura and elicited a tap. The finish came at 54 seconds of the fourth.
Jones crawled out of the corner and Belfort missed with a kick. Belfort landed a nice kick. Jones shot in for a takedown and got it against the cage. Belfort postured for an armbar and had it, but Jones was to gradually make his way out of it. Jones used an elbow to cut Vitor open. Vitor looked for the armbar again but got shut down. Jones continued to grind away with short elbows and landed a big left. The elbows kept coming, and Vitor was a bloody mess. Jones backed out of guard and kicked at Vitor's legs. Jones jumped back down and moved to mount right as the round ended.
The doctor checked Vitor between rounds, but he was good to go. Belfort missed with a head kick, but landed a leg kick. Jones looked to attack the legs with side kicks. Jones landed a spinning elbow. Belfort went back on the attack but couldn't land cleanly. Jones continued to pour it on with kicks. Belfort wasn't very active, but landed two punches. He then pulled guard, which was kind of weird. Jones landed a few elbows on top, and some shoulder checks late.
Jones landed a head kick and side kick to the body to start round three. Belfort responded with an inside leg kick. Jones hurt Vitor with another side kick to the body, and jumped into his guard. After a few elbows, Jones let him up. Jones opened up with kicks and a nice right. Vitor looked to land his left, but Jones blocked the shots. They clinched up and Belfort pulled guard again. Jones didn't really land anything for a while, but eventually passed to half guard. Jones started grinding away with short elbows, but Vitor retained guard at the end of the round.
Belfort attempted a head kick and evaded a Jones one, but he semi-pulled guard again. Jones set up a crucifix and threw the elbows, then switched to a americana. He cracked on it and Belfort had no choice but to tap.
