Marcus Brimage used heavy striking and solid takedown defense to win a unanimous decision over Jimy Hettes in their featherweight UFC 152 bout. Brimage landed a ton of damaging shots in the first and third rounds to easily take two stanzas. He was taken down in the second and Hettes had him in a bit of trouble, but Brimage managed to get back up and stuff the previously undefeated Hettes' takedowns for the rest of the fight. All three judges had the bout 29-28 for Brimage.
Brimage started strong with two solid rights that Hettes did nothing to avoid. Hettes went for a takedown and Brimage ran right through his legs to the other side of the cage. Hettes caught Brimage low. Brimage landed a nice foot sweep on Hettes. Brimage landed a punch that dropped Hettes, and decided not to engage him in his guard. Brimage landed all sorts of shots but Hettes took them all. Hettes landed a left that staggered Brimage. Brimage landed a bunch more with both rights and lefts. Both men threw down for the final 45 seconds.
Brimage had a small cut over his eye to start the second. Hettes missed with a head kick and ate a couple of rights. Hettes ducked a punch and took the fight to the floor. Jimy looked for an armbar but Brimage escaped to his feet. Hettes landed a nice jumping knee and took it to the ground again. He locked up a guillotine, but gave it up and switched to back mount with a body triangle. Hettes continued to hunt for a sub but Brimage escaped again. Hettes got his jab going and had a takedown attempt stuffed.
Brimage switched to leg kicks in the final round, and the fighters traded hooks. Hettes was bleeding from behind his ear. Hettes was coming forward with some plodding strikes, while Brimage landed his left hook a bunch of times in a row. Hettes tried to shoot a couple of times, but got stuffed. They exchanged punches in the last 10 seconds but nothing damaging landed.
