Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez

Round 1: The crowd is insane already. Martinez is pawing with his jab early. Chavez didn't throw a punch until 55 seconds into the round. Martinez lands the first solid punch, a straight right. Chavez still hasn't landed anything after two minutes. Pretty slow start overall. Martinez drops his hands to try and bait Chavez into fighting. Chavez finally lands to the body. Martinez finishes with his own body shot. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 2: Martinez lands a left and Chavez looks to bully a bit. Martinez lands a shot and Chavez taunts him. Chavez goes to the body inside. Martinez drops his hands again. Martinez doing well from distance, but Chavez gets him against the ropes and goes to the body. Chavez comes across with a left that lands. Chavez stops throwing again for the final minute, but Martinez didn't land a bunch. Closer round. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 3: Martinez lands a few glancing shots early, and stays away from Chavez when he tries to advance. Martinez starts to take over and lands thee punches in a row, then showboats a bit. Martinez lands a nice quick left, but Chavez responds with his own left. Chavez is digging to the body in tight again, which is his bread and butter. Martinez puts together another nice combo late. Chavez is bleeding from the mouth. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 4: Martinez is just way more active early in this round as well. Martinez is even doing the better work inside over the first minute, but Chavez is still there. Martinez with a quick straight right. Chavez went to the body and landed a big right hook, but Sergio responded with his own inside. Two right hooks land for Sergio. Maravilla starts taunting Chavez and landing single shots that aren't getting a respond. Chavez gets him against the ropes, but it's Martinez landing the punches. The two men throw down late, with Martinez getting the best of it. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 5: Martnez is the only one throwing punches for the first 30 seconds, and connecting with some jabs. The speed difference is really significant, and Chavez isn't sure how to adjust. Chavez eats punches to close the distance, but lands two solid shots of his own after getting inside. Sergio is throwing much more though, and landing a lot of them. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 6: Martinez is moving all the way around the ring and popping Chavez with single shots. Chavez finally closed the distance and landed some punches in the corner. Chavez is finally looking to fight, but Martinez is still beating him to the punch most of the time. Two nice rights from Chavez, and a body shot. Martinez turns it around and lands about eight punches in a row. Martinez deftly slipped a punch and landed a shot to the chin at the bell. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 7: Chavez starts out timid again, which is odd. Single shots up the middle are landing for Sergio. A big straight left brings more blood out of Chavez's nose and mouth. Three left hooks from Martinez back Chavez up, and Martinez turns it on. Chavez come back and corners Martinez and unloads, but Sergio lands in return. Great end to the round. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 8: Martinez starts working the single shots to the body, then lands a straight right to the dome. Another big right straight up the pipe. Martinez continues to circle and frustrate Chavez into inactivity. Chavez finally landed a big right hook, but it didn't faze Sergio. Chavez corners Martinez briefly, and marks up his eye with a couple of punches. Martinez was still way more active though. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 9: The first minute was a carbon copy of the first eight rounds - Martinez popping single shots and moving, which Chavez unsuccessfully tries to move forward and land something. Martinez is dancing away and laughing at him now. He's switching it up between countering and leading with one short or a three-punch combo. Chavez drops his hands and Sergio tags him on the news. Chavez lands a nice jab, but Sergio gets right back on him with three more shots. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 10: Martinez lands to the body and head pretty much whenever he wants early. Martinez lands a shot low and got a warning. The two men collide heads, and Martinez's cut is bleeding a bit more. It doesn't slow Sergio down at all though, who landed four straight rights from the outside. Martinez went down, but it was ruled a slip. Martinez was very fired up to finish the round. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 11: Chavez actually comes out quickly and backs Martinez up with some punches. Martinez took the momentum back quickly though, and started landing potshots. Chavez landed two big right hands, but Martinez responded with his own shots. Chavez cornered Martinez and landed a big shot, but Martinez came back with fire and landed about 15 straight punches that backed Chavez all the way across the ring. Martinez pressed late and landed a few more shots for good measure. 10-9 Martinez.

Round 12: Martinez goes back to the straight single punches while circling and finds success once again. Chavez landed a huge right on an off-balance Martinez, but he takes it and they both throw down and Chavez knocks Sergio down with three rights! Sergio's up at 7, and Chavez attacks! Martinez slips. Chavez attacks some more and lands some big shots, but Martinez perseveres and lands his owns shots without clinching at all. Martinez survives to the final bell! WOW! 10-8 Chavez, but Martinez wins the fight.

Sergio Martinez defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr by unanimous decision (117-110, 118-109, 118-109)
