Phil Davis and Wagner Prado go to No Decision (Eye Poke), 1:22 of round one
Phil Davis vs. Wagner Prado was expected to be a classic grappler vs. striker bout. Too bad it never really got started. Prado came out early and landed a stinging punch but when he went in for another, Davis tried to push off with his left hand and poked Prado deep in the eye. There was blood coming out of the eye and Prado admitted that he seeing double, so the referee had no choice but to stop the fight.
Prado's reaction was saddening after the ref waved it off. He let out a gutteral scream and pleaded with the referee to reconsider, but it was too late. He was crying when Bruce Buffer made the official announcement as well. I don't often feel for fighters, but it would be terrible to train for so long to make your UFC debut, only to have your fight stopped in the first minute for something like that. Brutal.
I'd imagine that they'll set these two up for a rematch as soon as Prado's good to go, but who knows.
