Frankie Edgar won't stand and trade in the pocket and he can out point. Recall the Jose Aldo/Kenny Florian fight. Kenny Florian is not exactly the hardest guy to finish, he's a tough guy but he cruised to lose a decision without ever being in real trouble.
Jose Aldo also doesn't have the greatest cardio, recall what Mark Hominick was able to pull off in the 5th round after taking a pretty brutal beating for the majority of the preceding 4 rounds.
Edgar is probably the hardest to finish guy at 155. He also has cardio of Diaz level proportions. I am also sure the time he has spent around Jersey Shore cast members makes him that much more tempting to punch him in the face, I hope he learns how to say "come at me bro" in Portuguese come fight night to initiate some exchanges.
He's got a wrestling base, proper stand up and he will not tire out. Not trying to be facetious, but on paper aside from power in his strikes I'd say that Edgar is at an advantage in most every other department. The argument about the ground game could be another place Aldo is superior but in the rare occasion Aldo's been on his back I've never seen him threaten a submission. If Edgar gets on top of him, I don't think we'll see him getting tapped but more like he will initiate the "Jon Fitch Offense".
I feel like the reason he opened as an underdog is how the weight cut will affect him. 10lbs when he is already a fairly small lightweight should really be a non-issue. I think that he could make weight without losing any cardio or speed.
As the betting lines have opened without much of a margin between the two I feel like the lines will move closer by fight time. The real question is how many times can he get rocked like that before he gets knocked out. I am pretty sure that is now 4 fights in a row where he's been caught right on the button and survived. There was a time when Dana White said something like you could hit Chuck Liddell in the face with a baseball bat and he wouldn't flinch. I believe he is to be kept indoors on windy days as per a doctors recommendation these days.
Back to the point though.... A (T)KO is really the only way I see Aldo winning this fight. If it goes to a decision it will be Frankie's fight. Will Aldo land the blow that puts Frankie's lights out? My money says no.
