Fight announcements keep coming for the highly anticipated UFC on Fox 5 card in December. Today, the UFC announced a fight between two fellow grapplers, as TUF winner Michael Chiesa will fight BJJ black belt Rafaello Oliveira. The UFC's website had the news:
At lightweight, Ultimate Fighter Live winner Michael "Maverick" Chiesa will face Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Rafaello "Tractor" Oliveira in Chiesa's home state of Washington.
Chiesa was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Live, defeating Jeremy Larsen, Justin Lawrence, and James Vick while in the TUF house. Those three wins set him up for a matchup in the finals with Al Iaquinta, and Chiesa ended up using a rear naked choke to win by technical submission just over halfway into round 1. Prior to this win, Chiesa was 7-0 in his professional career, with five wins by submission. This will be Chiesa's first fight since winning The Ultimate FIghter.
Rafaello Oliveira is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt sporting four wins by submission and four by (T)KO. While he has pretty raw stand up skills, he has a very solid jiu-jitsu game, and pretty good wrestling to complement it. In his first two UFC outings, Rafaello fought stiff competition, ultimately losing to Gleison Tibau and Yves Edwards respectively. In his most recent fight, he dominated the ground work against Yoislandy Izquierdo, picking up a unanimous decision victory. He will probably be looking to outgrapple Chiesa and win his second fight in a row.
