Tim Sylvia, the Rodney Dangerfield of MMA, is finally getting some respect from ONE FC and has been signed on to replace Soa Palelei in a bout against nemesis Andrei Arlovski. Personally, I've never been a fan of quadrilogies. Maybe ONE FC can have them fight every other weekend for the ONE FC heavyweight title? All kidding aside, I'll still probably watch it...more for Aoki and Fernandes, but I'm curious to see where this leads.
Matt 'The Hammer' Hamill comes out of his short retirement to face recent Bellator vet Roger Hollett at UFC 152. Somebody needs to come up with a different term than retirement for guys like Hamill, Penn, and Nick Diaz; like hiatus, or sabbatical, or burnout leave. Whenever I hear 'coming out of retirement', I just imagine some pissed AARP rep ripping up paperwork when some old dude discovers Viagra. Anyway, it was surprising when Hamill retired, but I'm glad he's back and look forward to seeing him fight again.
Legacy FC signed a couple more intriguing fighters in flyweights Rafael de Freitas and Dustin Ortiz. Ortiz looked pretty good in a UD loss to Ian McCall at Tachi Palace Fights in 2011, maybe this bout will set one of them up for a chance at a UFC contract. Journeyman Matt Thompson is also on the card coming off a big submission win over Jake Rosholt and is 8-1 over the last 3 years. The former pro wrestler Thompson has fought as high as heavyweight and as low as middleweight but will take on undefeated Justin Ledet at 205.
And yes, Bellator signed a Harry Johnson.
