In my opinion, the most important fights tonight were the female bouts (in the context of the overall MMA world), and they were also the best. Tate vs. Kedzie is easily a candidate for fight of the year, and Rousey of course brings us the realness on the arm bar tip. Lets look at some potential matches for the ladies of Strikeforce
Ronda Rousey vs. Marloes Coenen: Lets be honest, Coenen belongs in Strikeforce. She's one of the best female fighters in the bantamweight division, a former champion, and it's a fresh match up to make. I know this is a bit unrealistic, but I want to see it. If not, a Tate rematch would work considering they still hate each other.
Miesha Tate vs. Liz Carmouche: Strength vs. Technique, and any way you slice it, it should be awesome fight. Neither gal is prone to being in a boring fight, there is an interesting style and size match up, and the winner either produces a grudge match or a fresh match up. I think this could easily be another fight of the year type fight.
Sarah Kaufman vs. Shayna Baszler: Baszler deserves to be in Strikeforce as well. It would be a rematch, but I think it's an interesting style match up and gets one of those ladies back in the win column.
Julie Kedzie vs. Alexis Davis: Technically Davis is coming off a win, but her last Strikeforce fight was a loss, so I don't think it's egregious. Davis presents similar challenges to Tate, and Davis is someone down the line who might be able to fight Rousey as well.
I would be super down to see any of these match ups. That said, back on the male side, I think there are a couple of interesting fights to make. The most obvious one being "Jacare" Souza vs. "Surfer" Rockhold II. I mean, Larkin probably needs another win at middleweight before he gets the call.
Welterweight is probably the most interesting weight class from a challenger perspective. I think Woodley vs. Kennedy creates a good contender for Marquardt. Woodley was in a great fight against Marquardt, and I think a Kennedy fight could have similar results. We also have Jordan Mein, Tarec Saffiedine, Misaki, and the winner of Mulhern vs. Santiago are all close for a title shot. Here would be my sort of welterweight quasi-tournament.
Mein vs. the winner of Mulhern vs. Santiago: I think Santiago is a going to win, and I think he's the perfect fighter to challenge and test Mein. I'm sure you can find Mein a fight in the meantime if necessary (like a Bobby Voekler or something)
Tarec Saffiedine vs. Kazuo Misaki: I'm assuming as a champion Marquardt can wait out the winner of the two most deserving welterweights on the roster. It might not be a great fight, but I think it gives you the most deserving challenger. That said, I think Saffiedine vs. Marquardt would be justified, dope, and probably look like two dudes playing Tekken at points.
Here are some other fights you might care about
Bobby Green vs. Ryan Couture: Umm.... Yeah.
Ovince St. Prue vs. Gian Villante: OSP is not a skilled fighter, but is a good athlete and I think this would be a solid fight.
Scott Smith vs. Roger Bowling: Why the fuck not?
Anyways, please feel free to give me some feedback, tell my why my fights suck, suggest any alternatives, and more importantly correct anything I missed or overlooked. This post was a bit bare bones, but it's super late, I have alcohol in me, and the card wasn't exactly stacked.
