Renato Sobral jumps the ONE FC ship and signs with Bellator adding further veteran strength to the promotion's 205 roster. Bellator seems to be reaching into their pockets to sign some big veteran names in anticipation of the move to Spike in the next few months. Will this affect their tried and true tournament format, or will they reserve it for incoming prospects? That seems up in the air at the moment as the recently released welterweight bracket reveals some less than stellar names, even among Bellator's own stable. Babalu has stated he's a fan of the quick turn-around schedule, but will his body remain a fan? Time answers all questions.
Invicta FC has released the card for their third event and again some huge names have signed on to bolster the promotion's reputation. Tara LaRosa and Naho Sugiyama step onto the Invicta stage as number one ranked talents, accompanied by notables Cat Zingano and Aisling Daly. Sugiyama faces Jessica Penne at Atomweight for the first title bout in Invicta history. I can't express my excitement in regards to Invicta's ability to gather the best female talent from other various organizations on their cards in such a short time. It's simply amazing and is helping propel women's MMA by huge leaps and bounds. While Strikeforce is the home for women's MMA as far as Zuffa is concerned, the rise of Invicta only strengthens the belief that Strikeforce is an expendable entity to be merged at the end of the year.
Korea's Road FC promotion signed exciting vets Melvin Manhoef and Minowaman for their upcoming September 15th card. Not all that surprising since Road is part of the ONE FC talent exchange and these fellows were also part of DREAM crew. Don't be surprised if we see them take part in a future ONE FC card.
