In the feature bout of the UFC 150 preliminary card, Dennis Bermudez survived a couple of scares to submit Tom Hayden late in the first round of their featherweight bout. The win was Bermudez's second straight in the UFC. The finish came at 4:43 of round one.
Hayden caught Bermudez with a big knee about halfway through the first round that dropped him. He swarmed and looked for a choke and armbar, but Bermudez was able to recover and get back to his feet. When Hayden tried to shoot in again, Bermudez caught him in a brutal guilotine. He stood up and actually lifted Hayden off the ground, which forced the tap.
What was the high point of the fight?
The big knee was pretty cool, but the guillotine was even cooler.
Where do they go from here?
Bermudez has turned things around since losing out to Diego Brandao in the TUF 14 finals. His strength and wrestling are impressive, and he's usually pretty entertaining. I'd like to see him move up the ladder a bit and fight someone like Mike Brown.
Hayden is now 0-2 in the UFC, but he almost finished Bermudez and seems like he has a good skillset. I think we'll see him get another fight in the organization.
Watch now, later, or never?
Now. It was one of the more entertaining fights on the card for sure.
