Why are we still having UFC 149 in Calgary? And to whom does it benefit?
Of course card is subject to change, but realistically this whole card change and not for the better. It feels like a UFC Ponzi scheme. They scheduled 7 events in 7 weeks, over-promised and under-delivered to everyone.
We know the fight game. We know injuries happen. But never before had the UFC but it's self in such a precarious position unable, to deal with the realities of running a fight promotion.*
*without screwing the fans.
I'm proposing that we cancel UFC 149: http://www.facebook.com/CancelUFC149I live in Calgary. I have tickets to UFC 149, which sold out immediately. Unfortunately myself and all I've asked have very little desire to see the event. When we bought tickets, the stacked card was be lauded be the UFC.
The stacked card also sees two former UFC® champions in Calgary as former light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua faces off against Thiago Silvawhile former interim heavyweight champ Minotauro Nogueirareturns to action to face Cheick Kongo. Title contenders also clash as Michael Bisping faces middleweight Tim Boetsch.
That was in addition to Aldo vs. Kock.
According to the UFC we now only have 3 fights on the card (July 8, 2012 - http://www.ufc.ca/event/UFC149) , none of which the fans bought their original tickets for:
Faber vs Barao
Lombard vs Boetsch
Clements vs Riddle
UFC is quoting the event as an 18,000 seat sell-out.
Based on some research and ticket prices, I'm expecting the gate to be $4.5 - $5 million. The UFC already has that money. The fans have already paid. We're owed something close to the show advertised. Other people can skip the PPV, we can't.
As a show of solidarity between fight fans, I'm asking that UFC 149 be cancelled. The UFC needs to be held accountable. It can't runaway with our money.
I could go on and on, but I'll get off my soapbox.
