Mike Easton defeated Ivan Menjivar by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)
It wasn't the fight people were expecting, that's for sure. But Mike Easton showed more aggression than Ivan Menjivar and that was the difference as he picked up a unanimous decision victory in the first UFC 148 main card fight. The fight was mostly contested on the feet, with Easton coming forward with a multitude of strikes while Menjivar backed off and seemed a little gunshy at times. It was Easton's second straight win in the octagon.
The fighters started with a measured pace. Menjivar landed a couple of winging rights while Easton established his range. Easton landed a nice high kick that made Menjivar back up. Menjivar landed two cool spinning back kicks to the legs. Both fighters threw a variety of kicks. Neither fighter really got much going.
Menjivar landed a nice right early in the second. Both fighters threw a lot but not a lot landed. Easton was the one showing more aggression though. Both threw a variety of kicks but nothing with a ton of power. Menjivar finally ripped Easton to the body and Easton responded with his own body shot. Easton landed a flying knee to end the round.
Easton came out with even more aggression in the final round, landing some solid combos and walking Menjivar down. Easton landed the inside leg kick a few times while Menjivar looked for big rights. Easton landed to the body again. Menjivar threw a lazy spinning kick and got taken down. Menjivar got up fairly quickly. Menjivar missed with a spinning backfist. Easton threw some flashy kicks late, but nothing landed.
