Khabib Nurmagomedov used a pressing attack and a punch of winging punches to take a unanimous decision over Gleison Tibau in their UFC 148 ligthweight bout. He couldn't get a takedown, but Khabib was the one controlling the action. Tibau didn't take advantage of his chances and wasn't active enough to take any round. Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg was very surprised, but I'm not sure why. Tibau did a whole lot of nothing.
Nurmagomedov was loading up the right early but not finding a home for it. Nurmy finally shot in after two minutes of inactivity but couldn't get it down. He tried again and ate a solid knee to the body. Khabib worked against the cage but couldn't get anything going. The ref eventually separated them. The two fighters finally decided to open up a bit with a minute to go, and Khabib got the best of it. He shot back in but Tibau showed off some great balance.
A slow start to the second was energized by a solid Tibau counterpunch. Nurmagomedov looked for another takedown but was rebuffed by Tibau once again. A small cut was opened over Tibau's right eye. Tibau came forward and got a brief takedown, but Nurmy came right up throwing uppercuts and winging lefts. Nurmy landed three straight punches on the cage after another failed takedown attempt and grinded away against the cage until the ref separated them. Tibau landed two solid rights but Khabib responded with a flying knee and right of his own.
The third got off to another timid start, though Nurmagomedov was trying to make something happen. Khabib got a takedown stuffed, but landed a nice right on the way out. Gleison got a brief takedown and his back, but Khabib quickly squirmed away. Nurmy grinded away against the fence again, but not much was happening. After winging about 20 rights, Khabib finally landed one. They went to the bell swinging away.
