Getting In Just Too Late, The BE MMA Hall of Fame

"I don't want to achieve immortality by being inducted into the Hall of Fame. I want to achieve immortality by not dying." - William De Morgan

So I had been kicking this idea around for like a week or so in regards to setting up something of a BE MMA HOF option. I sign in today, looking to get some more news on the upcoming UFC event, and I see that DarthRevan beat me to it.

Not to be deterred (as I am pig headed and wanna do it anyway) I wanted to see if I could get my idea up off the ground. As opposed to me coming out here and saying "This guy is a Hall of Famer etc" I wanted to throw it out to the community. I wanted to see who we as a community would actually like to see enshrined in a HOF that has no building, no ceremony, but maybe we could send them some of that sweet theoretical internet money.

So I would like to do the following. I am going to try and list off 20 mixed martial artists who are retired from active competition (or at least semi-retired.) I have omitted the men already in the UFC HOF . While it is a sham, they still have warriors worthy of the honor, so I am "grandfathering them in (why am I doing this? Cause it is my idea, that is why! Mwahahaha)

So, that being said, that means we already have the following fighters in the BEMMAHOF

Royce Gracie

Dan Severn

Ken Shamrock

Chuck Liddell

Matt Hughes

Tito Ortiz

Randy Couture

Mark Coleman

I think we can all agree they all deserve to be there, and there is no point in treading back over their legacies.

So, with that out of the way, here is how I want to work this:

Out of the fighters I will list below, I would like everyone to choose 6 fighters they think would be worthy of enshrinement. The fighters with the most votes obviously will get in.

Side note: Should any of the wonderful staff from BE (or anywhere under the SB Nation umbrella) decide they want to vote, their vote counts as 2. The reasoning behind this? They are the legitimate MMA media, who under the MLB HOF standards would usually be the ones who would be responsible for voting who should be given the honor of the induction.

So, without further adieu, I would like to present the 20 fighters to select from for the first inaugural BEMMAHOF induction.

Fedor Emelianenko - Former PRIDE HW Champion, undefeated for almost 10 years

Frank Shamrock - Got me thinking about this whole thing when he kicked up a stink about the UFC HOF. Former UFC LHW Champion, Interim King of Pancrase, WEC LHW Champion, Strikeforce MW Champion

Bas Rutten - Former King of Pancrase, UFC HW Champion, 28-4-1 career record

Rickson Gracie - Widely considered the best BJJ practitioner in the entire Gracie family, unconfirmed 400-0 record in everything from Gracie Challenge fights, fights on the beach, Vale Tudo and MMA fights. Actual confirmed record is 11-0 (via Sherdog fight finder)

Evan Tanner - Former USFW HW champion, former UFC MW champion, career record of 32-8

Don Frye - Winner of UFC 8 and UFC Ultimate Ultimate 96 tournaments, participated in one of the greatest fights in MMA history at Pride 21 against Yoshihiro Takayama. Also owns a mustache that could teach you how to love a woman and scold a child

Mark Kerr - Winner of World Vale Tudo tournament, UFC 14 and 15 Heavyweight tournaments.

Kazushi Sakuraba - The famed Gracie Hunter. Consistently fought men larger than him. Winner of the UFC Japan tournament.

Igor Volchanchyn - Multiple time IAFC tournament winner, World Vale Tudo tournament winner, Pride FC 2000 Openweight tournament finalist, 55-10-1 career record

Oleg Taktarov - UFC 6 tournament champion, was involved in the very first UFC Superfight title match (which would end up becoming the UFC HW title).

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic- 2 time winner of Sherdog's Fight of The Year, won Pride FC Open Weight GP 2006, long considered the most feared striker in all of MMA during his prime.

Murilo Rua - Elite XC MW Champion, career 21-12-1 record

Ricardo Arona - RINGS 2001 tournament champion, finalist in Pride 2005 MW Grand Prix, one of the finest grapplers to ever come to MMA.

Kevin Randleman - Former UFC HW champion, owner of one of the biggest upsets in MMA history by defeating Cro Cop at the Pride 2004 HW GP.

Sean Sherk - Former UFC LW champion, also fought for WW title as well. Career record of 36-4-1

Kenny Florian - Fought across 4 different weight classes during his career, had been in 3 title fights with the UFC, season 1 TUF finalist.

Hayato "Mach" Sakurai - Former Shooto WW champion, fought for UFC WW championship, finalist in Pride LW GP. 36-12-2 career record

Pat Miletich - Winner of the UFC Lightweight tournament, as well as the UFC WW championship. 29-7-2 career record.

Renzo Gracie - One of the best of the Gracie family

Frank Trigg - WFA WW Champion, Icon Sports WW champion, twice fought for UFC WW championship.

So there we have it folks, your list of the potential first class into the BEMMAHOF. I will stop tabulating results at the end of the month and will do up a little fanpost with the results for the first class. I would honestly like to do this every year around this time just for shits and giggles. So please, in the comments vote for the 6 warriors you want to see enshrined and LETS MUTHAFUCKAS.
