Certainly a fun fight to look out for.
Eddie Alvarez, nearing the end of his Bellator contract, is already one of MMA's most sought after free agents. He has a lengthy career spanning many major promotions, with wins over top competitors. He has fought a pretty large list of good fighters, but nobody really knows just yet what he's made of. He has yet to compete in the big leagues.
But now, it seems like it is a given that he will be competing for the UFC. He was spotted sitting next to Dana White front row at a UFC event, and Dana has talked about him a few times. Eddie has discussed his thoughts on a move to the UFC, and while he seems to have had his doubts, now all eyes are on him.
Bjorn Rebney announced today that in what may be Eddie's last fight with Bellator, he is set to face off with the explosive Patricky Freire at Bellator 76. Freire is coming off of a tough loss to Lloyd Woodard in the Bellator lightweight tournament. That said, he is still one of the most exciting and talented fighters that Bellator has to offer, and is a stiff test for Alvarez.
Alvarez has been criticized for having a bit of a questionable chin, and this is a dangerous fight for him. If he loses, that could crush any hopes of him coming to the UFC in the near future. If he wins, however, it could be a very impressive lead up for his UFC run. Only time will tell.
Bellator 76 takes place October 12 in the Caesers Windsor Hotel & Casino in Ontario, Canada.
