The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 veteran Nam Phan has had a rocky start to his UFC career and is looking to get back on track. Right now, Phan is 1-3 as a UFC fighter. In his sole UFC victory, Phan avenged his controversial split decision loss to Leonard Garcia. Now, after being ragdolled for 3 rounds by Featherweight prospect Jim Hettes, Phan will be facing Cole Miller at UFC On Fox 4 in a fight that will probably determine whether or not he has a future in the UFC.
Last October, Phan had some harsh words for former movie star Steven Seagal, who's well known in the MMA world for appearing cageside at Anderson Silva's fights as the champion's "teacher". Following UFC 148, Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting caught up with Seagal, who dismissed Phan as someone he'd never heard of. On the MMA Hour, Helwani followed up with Phan on his thoughts about Seagal and his opponent Cole Miller:
On Steven Seagal saying he doesn't know "Nam Fran":
You know what, I'm not the most famous fighter. But, whatever, I still think he's a douche. [If I see him at an event] I wouldn't say anything to him. I'd just walk right past him, or maybe just snicker at him.
On UFC On Fox 4 opponent Cole Miller:
For my sake, I hope [145's] not a good weight for him. We'll see, there's not that many guys that tall at 145. He's 6-1. I'm short, so he seems like 6-3 to me, he's huge. That guy's a giant. It's gonna be a tough fight. Cole's very tall, he's got good boxing, good jiu-jitsu. I've got my hands full with this guy.
The pressure isn't only on Phan in this fight. Cole Miller needs to make an impression on the Featherweight division to recover from his losing effort against Steven Siler at UFC On FX 2. Miller has fought at 145 earlier in his career, but spent his UFC career as a Lightweight gatekeeper.
