It appears that Shane Carwin has his TUF coaching staff picked out. Today, he and his manager told MMA Junkie the full lineup for his staff for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Of this five person lineup, two will be active fighters. Carwin will have the recently crowned Strikeforce welterweight champion, Nate Marquardt, and will also bring along Pat Barry, a UFC heavyweight and former kickboxer with a highly overstated run in K-1. Marquardt is a very well rounded fighter, and will probably be a very good teacher in all areas. Being that this season features welterweights, he can also be a good sparring partner for people on the team. Barry is always enthusiastic, but he can also be a little wacky. He does have strong kickboxing technique and that will probably be what he teaches to the guys on Shane's team. These two are an interesting duo, but are still solid choices.
Among his other picks are Trevor Wittman, the head coach of Grudge Training Center where Carwin trains; Leister Bowling, Grudge's wrestling coach and former 3 time All-American; and Loren Landlow, a physical therapist and sports performance coach.
Taping for the show begins next month, and the season's premiere will be on September 7th. Shane Carwin will be coming off of a long layoff to compete with fellow heavyweight Roy Nelson, and they are expected to fight some time after the finale.
