A much anticipated heavyweight bout between Ben Rothwell and Travis Browne is now off the UFC on FOX 4 card, with Rothwell suffering an ankle injury in training, reported earlier by MMA Junkie. With the injury coming at the very last moment, UFC officials have reportedly tapped Devin Cole as his replacement.
This has to be a major disappointment for Browne, who looked to add a marquee win to his still undefeated resume. "Hapa" brings in a 13-0-1 record (4-0-1 UFC), with his lone blemish being a draw against longtime UFC heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo.
The 35 year old Cole is a true veteran of the sport, having fought as a professional since 2003. He brings into his UFC debut a 20-9-1 career record, having gone 2-2 in his last 4 four fights, all under the Strikeforce banner. Cole has a unanimous decision win over current UFC heavyweight Shawn Jordan, but should expect Browne to provide the toughest test of his career.
This is a situation of the UFC having to make do as best they can as injuries have piled up this year, with the trend sadly continuing here. For more coverage of the event, check out SB Nations's coverage here.
