Another great signing by the UFC for the flyweight division as Ulysses Gomez joins the ranks. Gomez is a throwback type of fighter that brings high level grappling skills and an iron chin to the Octagon and has been known to take fights up to featherweight. "Useless" will vacate the Tachi Palace Fights bantamweight title for a chance at the biggest stage in MMA. Gomez is replacing Ian McCall and will face fellow flyweight newcomer John Moraga at UFC on FOX 4.
Tyson Griffin makes a return to the cage after signing with Resurrection FA. Griffin's last appearance was at UFC 137 where he lost to Bart Palaszewski by first round KO. Hopefully Griffin will get a couple wins and some confidence under his belt and return to the UFC as he's still a top 25 featherweight regardless of his recent slump. Steve Mocco was also signed by RFA, making the transition from international wrestling to MMA. For a refresher course on Mocco, please check out Mike Riordan's excellent post.
Former Ultimate Fighter alumni Chris Tickle and Joseph Henle make appearances on cards in August. Tickle steps in for Junior Assuncao to face Doug Frey at Legacy FC 13 on Aug 17, while Henle meets Luke Harris at MFC 34 on August 10. Both cards will air on AXSTV (formerly HDNET). Joining Henle on the MFC 34 card will be UFC vet Tim Hague as he takes on Mike Hackert in a rematch of their fight in May, which Hackert won by unanimous decision.
