On the same day of their UFC 152 press conference, UFC officials confirmed another fight for the Toronto card, a welterweight battle between Norway's Simeon Thoresen and TUF alum Seth Baczynski. They announced the news on their website:
Two exciting welterweights on win streaks will go head-to-head at UFC 152 as verbal agreements are in for Simeon "The Grin" Thoresen vs. Seth "The Polish Pistola" Baczynski.
Also in the announcement was confirmation of the previously reported featherweight clash between Jimy Hettes and Marcus Brimage. Both fights are expected to take place on the preliminary card.
Thoresen trains under fellow countryman and former top lightweight Joachim Hansen. The submission specialist debuted at UFC on FUEL 2 in Stockholm, Sweden, defeating Besam Yousef by rear-naked choke. That win gave Thoresen his 15th career submission out of 17 wins and his 5th consecutive win via RNC. Most of his fights on the regional circuit were held in England, including a decision victory (the only one of his career) against current UFC welterweight John Maguire.
Seth Baczynski was a member of season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, initially losing to Court McGee in the "get into the house" fight, only to return as an injury replacement. He was eliminated in the quarterfinals after illegally soccer kicking Brad Tavares, resulting in a DQ. The two rematched in the show's season finale, with Tavares taking a decision win. Baczynski was released following his loss, but after a couple of wins on regional cards, he returned to the UFC as an injury replacement and hasn't lost since, beating Clay Harvison, Matt Brown, and most recently Lance Benoist. Like Thoresen, Baczynski's wins are mostly by submission and he's only won by decision once.
