After winning the inaugural edition of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil in front of a raucous crowd in Belo Horizonte, featherweight Rony "Jason" Mariano is scheduled to make his Octagon return at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Middleweight winner Cezar "Mutante" Ferreira is also expected to be on this card. Tatame reported on today's social event in Rio:
UFC announced Today, on a social event at Rocinha, in Rio de Janeiro, that TUF Brazil winner at the featherweight class, Rony ‘Jason’ Mariano is set to fight at UFC 153, event that takes place in Rio de Janeiro on October 13th.
No opponents were announced.
Cezar ‘Mutante’ Ferreira, TUF Brazil winner at middleweight division, confirmed he got the call to fight on the card as well, but he’s waiting for an "ok" from his doctor.
Jason was the first overall pick made by coach Wanderlei Silva, and performed up to expectations, winning all three fights to reach the final, where he earned a unanimous decision victory over Godofredo Pepey at UFC 147 to win the six-figure contract and TUF title. A black belt under the Nogueira brothers, Jason has won his last 6 professional bouts, including 4 by submission.
'Mutante' defeated Sergio Moraes in the final via unanimous decision in a wild fight, completing an impressive run for the #1 pick for coach Vitor Belfort. He stopped three opponents, including a memorable head kick KO of Thiago Bodao in the middleweight semifinal. His original opponent in the finale was Daniel Sarafian, but he was replaced by Moraes (who he beat in the other semifinal). Mutante's professional record is 5-2, with 4 stoppage victories.
The only other scheduled fight for UFC 153 is a Quinton Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira light heavyweight bout.
