I've recently been looking into starting up Jiu-Jitsu in an attempt to get fit and gain a better understanding of MMA. Locally though there is only one gym that does classes and those are in Japanese Jiu-Jitsu (JJJ), not BJJ as I was hoping for. There is a gym that runs BJJ that's much further afield, about a 30 mile round trip, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with JJJ or any advice as to which is the better style to take up. All the MMA guys seem to practise BJJ - would I be missing out on anything crucial if I went to the local gym with the Japanese style instead?
