Five Ounces of Pain reported today that Strikeforce has planned an event for September 29th, set to take place in the Power Balance Pavillion in Sacramento, California. Despite very little information about the event, Strikeforce confirms that their Heavyweight Grand Prix champion, Daniel Cormier, will be fighting at the event. This will be the last fight on his Strikeforce contract, and a move to the UFC has been highly anticipated by MMA fans since his emphatic win over Josh Barnett in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix finals.
September 29th is also the date of UFC on Fuel TV 5, set to take place in Nottingham, England. Luckily for fans, there will be little or no conflict, as the time difference allows for the Fuel broadcast to be finishing as the Strikeforce card begins. This may very well be an experiment towards what Dana White has alluded to before, with two events on the same day in different locations. It will be hard to tell how these will go over, as both Fuel and Strikeforce events draw much less than other Zuffa cards. Regardless, it will be a big day for MMA, and filled with a ton of action.
