Nate Marqardt defeated Tyron Woodley by knockout at 1:39 of round 4
Nate Marquardt and Tyron Woodley went to war, and it was the former UFC fighter that came out on top. Both men had the other hurt at multiple times in the fight, but Nate made Woodley scrap it out on the feet and that was the difference. He finally got Woodley against the fence in the first and landed three huge standing elbows that had Woodley basically out. Two more massive uppercuts made Nate Marquardt the Strikeforce welterweight champion.
Woodley decided to strike with Marquardt early, and caught a kick in the junk. Woodley landed a big right that staggered Marquardt across the cage. Woodley took Nate's back and landed some knees to the body. Marqaurdt landed a nice knee to the head in the clinch. Marquardt dropped Woodley with a straight right, and locked up a guillotine. Woodley escaped and Nate came forward with strikes. Woodley was still hurt and Nate looked to strike, but Woodley tied him up. Woodley landed a nice knee himself. Nate finished strong.
Nate started the second with some kicks. Woodley threw a spinning backfist and landed a right hook. They spent a while staring at each other and not throwing a lot. Quite a switch from the first round. Marquardt landed a nice spinning back kick. Nate landed a straight right and Marquardt got an inside trip takedown. Woodley got back up, and ate a kick. He responded with a straight right.
Woodley started strong in the third, dropping Marquardt and pounding away on the ground. Marquardt swung around and looked for an armbar but Woodley fought it off. The referee stood them up pretty quickly. Marquardt walked Woodley down for a while but neither man engaged much. Nate finally tied Tyron up against the cage and landed a few strikes to close it out.
Marquardt started the fourth well with two big rights and some work against the cage. He stepped back and landed three huge standing elbows that stunned Woodley, and dropped him with a left uppercut. One more uppercut and Woodley slumped to the mat, and the ref stopped it.
