- 2 of Amerikaz Would Be Most Wanted...
The last two Fuel TV Cards have been great cards in terms of action. Matter of fact all the cards placed on Fuel TV have been great thus far. The only problem? A grand total of 798,000 viewers. Let me spell that out for you. That's less than the lowest rated Spike TV prelims (UFC 136, which was headlined by the terrible drawing Edgar vs Maynard 3). Not only were these cards headlined with great fights with well known names, such as Diego Sanchez, Thiago Silva, Chan Sung Jung and Mark Munoz, but they were relevant fights in their respective title pictures.
Give a tiny leeway here since the Weidman vs Munoz fight peaked at a staggering 300,000. The UFC lost hundreds of thousands of viewers and potential customers to their product. More importantly, the product that are fighters.
Chris Weidman and The Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung, both put on their best performances in their UFC and MMA career. These were the performances that made you think that they could challenge Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo without being trampled on. Yet, nobody watched these personable, exciting, well-spoken fighters. The UFC lost potentially millions of dollars by placing them on fuel TV. Both of these fights if placed on say UFC 148 for the Weidman fight and UFC 145 Main Card, UFC on Fox 3 main card OR even the prelims of UFC 146 would have had seen their exposure increase astronomically. But, no two excellent cards were seen to no one, but the most hardcore of hardcore fans, who already know full well of the UFC's existence. Saturation is a bitch.
Without a doubt Jung and Weidman if available for more eyes would have casuals and hardcores clamoring, almost begging to see Jung vs Aldo and Weidman vs Silva. Not only did they miss great fights, the casuals and even the hardcores probably missed Chael Sonnen, essentially turning into Weidman's "pro-wrestling manager".
Hopefully, the UFC realizes how big of an opportunity they missed with putting these two fights on FUEL. Cause honestly, I am running out of something other than fuel and saliva complaining about this lack of exposure and saturation. I pray to my lord and Savior, Dana White, he takes these fights off FUEL or renames FUEL TV , "UFC Network or UFC UNLIMITED" something along those lines. Lastly, make the fucking FUEL youtube channel available to countries other than the USA. Damn.
