James Te Huna defeated Joey Beltran by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)
As expected, James Te Huna and Joey Beltran stepped into the octagon and threw bombs. To the surprise of many though, they went to an action-packed decision. Te Huna had Beltran hurt early and almost finished him, but the ever-resilient Beltran held on and put together good second and third rounds. Still though, Te Huna was landing the bigger shots and mixed in some timely takedowns to take all the scorecards.
Te Huna landed his right twice in the first 20 seconds. Te Huna backed Beltran up against the cage but didn't go nuts and just landed a couple of times. Beltran circled away and looked to establish his range. Te Huna didn't really show any fear of Beltran's power and just sat in the pocket looking to counter. Beltran landed two nice body kicks. Te Huna landed two big uppercuts, but Beltran stayed right there. After a couple more rights, Beltran started to back off. Te Huna landed two more, but Beltran responded with a good right of his own. Beltran wrapped up a body lock against the cage but didn't do anything with it. Te Huna dropped Beltran with a massive left hook and took mount. He pounded away on the ground against the cage, but Beltran pushed off the cage and got back to his feet. Te Huna just unloaded in the last 10 seconds, but Beltran took them all and smiled.
Beltran opened the second with a left and a head kick. Te Huna went back to the heavy rights, many of which landed. Beltran looked to establish his jab. Te Huna grabbed a single and got the takedown. Te Huna didn't do anything on the ground though, and it was stood up after about 45 seconds. The pace slowed considerably, with neither fighter landing until the literal last second, when Beltran landed a shot that seemed to hurt Te Huna.
They threw down to start the third, and Te Huna got the advantage with three big rights. Beltran pushed forward with a takedown attempt and landed some elbows. Te Huna responded with his own takedown but Beltran popped up. Beltran with another combo, and another takedown from Te Huna. Beltran got up slowly, which gave Te Huna time to land a massive shot to the body. Lots of blood started to come out of Beltran's mouth. Te Huna shot in and the fought in the clinch for a bit. Beltran hit a big takedown with a minute to go. They got back up and Beltran landed a big elbow. Both men threw bombs right to the horn.
