Aaron Simpson defeated Kenny Robertson by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Aaron Simpson's first fight at 170 was a successful one, as he mostly outwrestled Kenny Robertson and picked up a unanimous decision victory. The first round had some back-and-forth action, but Simpson took over in the second and third with a grinding wrestling game and strong work from the top. He came close to getting the finish at the final horn, but Robertson held on.
After an extended manhug against the cage to start, the fighters threw down a bit. Robertson had a cut opened up on his forehead. After some more clinching against the fence, Simpson threw Robertson down but he rolled right through back to his feet. Simpson ended up with a cut above the eye as well in the fracas. They battled with knees against the fence again. Simpson spun around to Robertson's back and dumped him down facefirst. Robertson got up and caught Simpson with a big shot at the end of the round.
The two men immediately began their wrestling match again at the start of the second round. Robertson missed with a spinning backfist and got finally taken down. Simpson couldn't get much going and Robertson got up, but went back down. Robertson looked for a leg lock but couldn't get it. Simpson pounded away with hammerfists for the rest of the less-than-exciting round.
Simpson dragged Robertson to the ground once again, and landed punches to the head while Robertson turtled. Simpson rolled over and tried to get an inverted triangle, but Robertson defended well. Simpson scooped him up for a slam. Simpson continued with the GnP agains the cage. Simpson tried hard for the finish with hammerfists and a kimura attempt, but the final horn sounded.
