Big news came out of the UFC On FX 3: Demetrious Johnson Vs. Ian McCall post-fight press conference tonight. It seems the UFC wants to return to Toronto in exciting fashion and Dana White isn't holding back with the big matchmaking.
While taking media questions, Dana announced that Junior Dos Santos will be given his chance to tie the Heavyweight championship title defense record against the man he took the belt from in Cain Velasquez. Junior is riding high on one of the most impressive runs MMA's heavyweight division has ever seen this side of Fedor Emelianenko. Velasquez, on the other hand, will be looking to avenge his only ever career loss and get back the belt he took from Brock Lesnar. This announcement was doubly surprising to me, considering just a couple weeks ago it was released that Cain was out for 6 months following a hand injury in his UFC 146 bout against Antonio Silva. Apparently, the news is going around that Cain has recovered from the injury and is ready to return.
As Co-main event, Dana plans to give high rising prospect Rory MacDonald the chance to face returning UFC legend BJ Penn. Penn has been pretty hot and cold when speaking of his return to competition since his devastating loss to Nick Diaz at UFC 137. However, when Rory called him out earlier this week, BJ stepped up to the plate.
