UFC On FX 3 Results: Demetrious Johnson Takes Entertaining Decision Over Ian McCall

Demetrious Johnson defeated Ian McCall by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

The second fight looked eerily like the first fight, but Demetrious Johnson was able to control the wrestling in the third round and that earned him a unanimous decision victory over a game Ian McCall in the main event of UFC on FX 3. Johnson moves on to face Joseph Benavidez to see who will be the first UFC flyweight champion. The final scores were 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.

After some exchanges to start the bout, Johnson got a takedown against the cage but McCall got up quickly. Johnson used a front kick effectively and avoided a lot of McCall's punches. A right hand from Johnson landed on McCall's nose and dropped him. He popped back up but Johnson worked him against the cage. The fighters engaged in a couple of fun scrambles with neither gaining an advantage. Johnson took the first.

McCall shot in for a takedown and got it briefly right at the start of the second round. Johnson got back up though. McCall landed a nice uppercut that backed Johnson up. McCall landed a low blow about halfway through the round, but Johnson recovered quickly. McCall ducked a punch and looked to have a takedown in the bag, but Johnson stayed up somehow. McCall spun around and took Johnson's back and got a suplex takedown, but Johnson came up once again. McCall landed a nice spinning elbow against the cage, which ruled. It looked like McCall took the second.

The fighters started the third just as quickly as the first two, with a bevy of strikes and clinch work. Johnson got a takedown against the cage and spun around to take Johnson's back. McCall broke his grip but ate a punch. Johnson continued with a nice combination, but McCall responded with a knee. Johnson was able to fight off McCall's takedown attempts and landed some shots on the way out. Johnson looked for a takedown but McCall rolled through. They brawled to the final bell, but it looked like Johnson won.

The two men competed against each other at the last UFC on FX event in Australia, but went to a controversial split draw. Despite a sudden death round being in place to decide the bout in case it went to a draw, the scorecards were tallied wrong and they didn't get the chance. So they met again here tonight.
