This entire post and the following, essentially weekly, posts, are the product of a conversation Chris Hall and I had last night. We were talking about controversial decisions, and how we could've judged them better, when I randomly threw out that we should live judge the fights on Friday, partly joking, partly serious. One thing led to another, and now we're hoping to live judge every UFC card, whether the fight ends in a finish or not. Basically, we'd give our score for the round in a Google Doc, and a few sentences of reasoning for our score in a recap, to see if our scores would change the outcome of a fight or not. But, of course, you need more than two judges, and who better to use their own scoring on a fight than BVandDietPepsi?
So, essentially, we're all planning on watching and live scoring UFC 143 tonight, just to give you guys a taste of what is to come, as it has a lot of very close fights and controversial decisions (Riddle/Martinez, Caceres/Figueroa, Pierce/Koscheck, and of course, Condit/Diaz.) That post should either be up tonight or tomorrow morning, based on whether we can all watch, score, write, and compile in time. You guys can then have a taste of what is to come on Friday night at UFC on FX 3.
I expect, at least from myself and BV, a lot more liberal use of 10-10 and 10-8 rounds, which would obviously drastically change the outcome of a fight like Caceres/Figueroa (the infamous two point deduction); I think it should be really interesting for you guys and fun for us that are doing it.
Logistics wise, the general consensus has been that we will make a FanPost either the day before or day of the fights, with a link to a Google doc that we will fill in after every round, and possibly a recap the night of the fights or day after. You guys can keep the doc open during the fights for interest's sake, or if you're late, come in and get a broader, previously collected sample of what's taken place that evening.
If you guys have any ideas of what could make this idea any more awesome, which is obviously highly unlikely, feel free to drop a comment/suggestion below, and tell us what's on your mind. Knowing this community, this should go over pretty well, I think.
You stay classy, Bloody Elbow,
T.C., Chris Hall, and BVandDietPepsi
