With MMA-Japan bringing us news that DREAM has officially collapsed I decided to pour over what was left of the promotions roster and suggest a list of fighters the UFC should and potential debuts for them.
Shinya Aoki: While the DREAM lightweight champion has struggled against top US opposition (his last fight a quick TKO loss to Eddie Alvarez) his grappling should still provide a tough test for many in the UFC lightweight division. Should he be signed to the world's largest fight promotion a bout against fellow top 15 lightweight Joe Lauzon could prove interesting.
Tatsuya Kawajiri: Since dropping to featherweight after his loss to Gilbert Melendez Kawajiri has looked extremely impressive in racking up three straight submission wins. His style would translate extremely well to the cage and with opportunities in his homeland extremly sparse now isthe time for the Crusher to head stateside fulltime. A bout with fellow wrestler Darren Elkins would be good first fight in the octagon Kawajiri.
Bibiano Fernandes: The first and only DREAM Bantamweight champion looked great in winning the title against UFC veteran Antonio Banuelos and I would love to see him make the move over. Should he make the move to the Octagon a fight against the winner of the Wineland/Jorgensen bout next weekend would make a lot of sense.
I know this is a short list but the cupboard was pretty bare. Thanks for the memories DREAM and let's hope Japan can be become the hotbed of MMA it once was.
