Generally we break these things down fight-by-fight, but for this event we're going to do one primer for most of the main card. We'll provide a little background info on each fighter and break down the matchups a bit. For a much more thorough breakdown of each of these fights, you can check out Dallas Winston's awesome main card dissections linked next to each bout. There will also be a primer covering the main event.
The main card features bouts at middleweight, featherweight, and heavyweight. The main card will be aired on pay-per-view (I know, I know), which kicks off at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m PT. Here's a quick rundown of the all the scheduled fights.
Cezar "Mutante" Ferreira (4-2) vs Sergio "Serginho" Moraes (6-1) - Dissection
This bout will decide who is the first Ultimate Fighter Brazil middleweight champion. Daniel Sarafian was the most dominant middleweight in the competition and advanced to the finals, but got injured and has been replaced by semi-final loser Serginho. Mutante finished every one of his bouts on his path to the finals, including a knockout of Thiago Bodao in the semis. The fight will come down to Mutante shutting down Serginho's formidable submission game.
Godofredo "Pepey" de Oliveira (8-0) vs Rony Mariano (10-3) - Dissection
Pepey enjoyed a relatively easy path to the finals, while Jason looked to be the best featherweight over the course of the competition. Pepey is primarily a submission fighter, while Jason has shown off a more well-rounded game over the course of his career. Jason is a big favorite coming into the bout and it's hard to find any path to victory for Pepey to be honest.
Fabricio Werdum (15-5-1) vs Mike Russow (15-1, 1 NC) - Dissection
Yes, there are people that you've heard of on this card, despite what you've read thus far. A lot of people criticized the booking here, thinking Werdum deserved better. Russow is undefeated in UFC though at 4-0, and is coming off a big win over Jon Olav Einemo where he showed no fear in engaging the former ADCC champ on the ground. Will he do the same with another ADCC winner here? Despite Werdum being a massive favorite, this bout is actually quite intriguing and could be a contender for fight of the night.
Yuri Alcantara (27-3) vs Hacran Dias (20-1-1) - Dissection
Alcantara has mostly flown under the radar of fans so far, winning a lightweight bout in the WEC and picking up two decision wins in the UFC. The former Jungle Fight champ is seriously underrated though, and could be a guy that challenges Jose Aldo one day. It might sound ridiculous right now, but it's a distinct possibility. To get there though, he'll have to go through the toughest test of his career - Hacran Dias. The Shooto Brazil champ is one of the top featherweight prospects in the world, and would likely be fighting on tonight's main card either way if he didn't test positive for a diuretic during the TUF Brazil tryouts. The UFC was smart enough to sign him straight away despite that, and the Nova Uniao product will look to establish himself in the UFC FW division with a win tonight.
