Usually the UFC style of card structure involves a kind of "prelim headliner" but that's not really the case here. Rodrigo Damm will take on Anistavio Medeiros in a featherweight bout while Delson Heleno faces Francisco Drinaldo at 185 pounds. The other two fights on the FX portion of the show see John Teixeira against Hugo Viana and Thiago Perpetuo against Leonardo Mafra.
Make sure to come back during the event and share your thoughts as the event goes down.
Felipe Arantes vs. Milton Vieira - Round 1: Burke here. Arantes started out with some leg kicks. Vieira landed a hard right and got a takedown. Vieira passed to side control. Vieira looked to set up a choke, but Arantes sluffed it off and got back to full guard. Vieira opened up with some ground and pound, but Arantes defended well. Vieira passed once again and looked to set up his specialty choke, but ran out of time. 10-9 Vieira.
Round 2: Arantes threw a flying knee and some kicks. Vieira looked to take it back to the ground but got stuffed. Arantes went back to the flying knee again but missed this time. Nice inside leg kick from Arantes. Vieira missed with a big right hook. Arantes stuffed another shot but Vieira landed a knee on his way out. Arantes landed two solid left jabs. Vieira responded with a right. Arantes landed a jab right as Vieira looked to throw some sort of spinning attack. Vieira landed with a solid wheel kick that backed up Arantes, but Arantes wrapped up a charging Vieira and took him down. Vieira scrambled, but Arantes briefly took his back and ended the round on top. 10-9 Arantes.
Round 3: Arantes went back to the jab early. Vieira whiffed on some punches. Not a lot going on for the first 90 seconds. Arantes landed two leg kicks while Vieira continued to miss. Arantes landed a nice head kick as the first strike in a combination. Vieira stuffed a takedown, ended up on top, and landed some good GnP. Arantes let up on the GnP a bit and the ref stood them up with a minute to go. Arantes landed a nice side kick to the body. Vieira looked for another wheel kick but missed by a mile this time. 10-9 Arantes, and it should be 29-28 for Arantes overall.
Felipe Arantes and Milton Vieira go to a split draw (29-28, 28-29, 28-28)
Wagner Campos vs. Marcos Vinicius - Round 1: The two men spend the first 90 seconds on the feet, with Campos getting the best of it with counters and left kicks. Vina landed a lead right but Galeto wrapped him up against the cage and took him down. Galeto deftly advanced to mount, then quickly moved to an arm-triangle choke. It looked to be lights out, but he gave it up and Via got back up briefly. Only to get taken back down. Vina landed some good upkicks that slowed Galeto down, even though one looked to land with Galeto having a knee on the floor. Good round. 10-9 Galeto.
Round 2: Both fighters switched stances a lot early but nothing really happened. Vina tried to throw a flying knee but got caught on the way in by Galeto. Campos ended up on top and passed to side control after a few seconds. Vina locked up an arm, but there's nothing there. Vina attempted to scramble but Campos showed off some excellent control and kept Vina flat on his back. Vina managed to cut Galeto a bit with some elbows from the bottom. The referee constantly asked for more action, even though it seemed like Galeto was working. Vina landed another nice upkick at the end of the round. 10-9 Galeto again.
Round 3: Vina landed a nice front kick, a big flying knee to the body, and just unloaded on Campos. He continued to pound away on Galeto until it looked like he was out on his feet, and Herb Dean stopped the fight! Great stop, Galeto just collapsed to the mat after the bout was called.
Marcos "Vina" Vinicius defeated Wagner "Galeto" Campos by TKO (strikes) at 1:04 of round 3
Thiago Perpetuo against Leonardo Mafra - Round 1 - Brookhouse taking back over. Perpetuo with a few big shots, Mafra starting a bit slower, measuring with leg kicks. Now Mafra runs forward with some wide punches that partially get blocked. Mafra throwing a lot of kicks at the legs but, as Rogan points out on commentary, he is dropping his hands when striking. Mafra with a few more punches and Perpetuo is swelling a bit around the eye. Mafra having a lot of success with his whipping punch style. Both guys land in an exchange but Mafra got the better of it. Perpetuo trying for a takedown but can't get it. 10-9 Mafra.
Round 2 - Perpetuo with the best shot of the round so far with a body to head combo. Mafra is very wild still and Perpetuo could probably win if he stops getting into firefight situations. Takedown attempt by Perpetuo is almost countered into an armbar, but he escapes and is on top now. Mafra with decent hammerfists off his back and almost gets an armbar. Now Perpetuo with some very big elbows. Mafra keeps going for that armbar but it's just not there. Perpetuo drilling him with some really big shots. Perpetuo is really taking this fight over now. 10-9 Perpetuo.
Round 3 - Perpetuo with a giant right hand that drops Mafra and he follows up with some major ground and pound and Mafra is out and this fight is over! Wow! Thiago Perpetuo wins by TKO (punches), 0:41 of round 3.
John Teixeira vs. Hugo Viana - Round 1 - They trade massive shots, both landing. They do it again. This might be a fun one. Hard right by Viana and a big leg kick in return by Teixeira. Viana with a nice combination. Both men winging big shots again. Viana lands a nice combo after Teixeira slipped during a kick. Viana with a hard left hook. Hard body shot by Viana. Good round. 10-9 Viana.
Round 2 - technical glitch caused me to lose everything i'd written about the round. Teixeira had a much better round, won it on my card with the takedown and then landing several very hard blows.
Round 3 - Viana back to form a bit more in this round, still trying to stay out of danger with movement and pick his spots. He is throwing the combos again and mixing in leg kicks. Low blow by Teixeira causes a brief delay. Teixeira tried for a takedown that looked all but certain but Viana bounced back up. Good combo by Viana now. Good body kick by Teixeira. Teixeira with a takedown but Viana jumps back up. Viana with a nice shot and the round ends. 10-9 Viana for me, but could see it either way.
Official Scorecards: 29-28 Viana, 29-28 Teixeira, 29-28 Viana. Hugo Viana wins by split decision.
Delson Heleno vs. Francisco Drinaldo - Round 1 - Heleno gets stung by a left hand. He's trying like hell to get a takedown and Drinaldo is deending the takedown very well. Knees to the body by Drinaldo. Drinaldo with a good punch and some knees to the body. Heleno still trying for a takedown and Drinaldo is still defending ably. Drinaldo gets on top after a struggle and pounds away with heavy shots. The fight is stopped. Francisco Drinaldo wins by TKO (punches), round 1.
Rodrigo Damm vs. Anistavio Medeiros - Round 1 - Damm throwing a lot of punches here and mixing in some hard leg kicks, Medeiros just kind of standing there and trying to get a feel for what's going on. Low blow for the second time by Medeiros. Hard let by Damm, now a big right and Medeiros is down. Damm on the back now and has the hooks in. Damm works under the chin with the choke and the fight is over. Great showing for Damm. Rodrigo Damm wins by submission (rear naked choke), round 1.
