UFC On FX Guida Vs. Maynard Results: Ken Stone def Dustin Pague by split decision (29-28x2, 28-29)
Pague stepped in as a replacement here after two previous opponents for Stone pulled out.
The two UFC bantamweights came out cautious. Stone crowded cage center and Pague was willing to back up at first. Stone lit up Pague with a combination. Stone came in with a spinning back fist and Pague ducked it and popped up to score with a combination. Pague scored with a hard right but Stone immediately countered and stumbled him. A low blow paused the action. They came back and continued to exchange shots that were harder than they were considered. Stone stumbled but it seemed more of a stumble than a hurt from the head shot.
In the second, Stone got tired of the exchanges and shot in. At one point Pague nearly reversed but Stone used a whizzer to bring both men down on their faces and it was quickly back up. When they separated and started exchanging again, Pague ate a nut shot and the fight took a break. Stone began to make his leg kicks felt. Stone jabbed well but ate straight rights in return.
Stone landed first in the final round with a pair of lefts and a right. Pague answered with an inside kick. Stone landed hard with a jab-cross. Pague tried to reestablish himself when Stone forced a clinch. Stone segued to an overhook but let it go and Pague tossed him. Stone quickly reversed him on the ground. He briefly had Pague's back but finally settled into his guard. Pague stuck with a closed guard and Stone battered from the inside. Pague fought up after a while but they scrambled back down quickly.
Ken Stone (10-3; 1-1 UFC) made his Zuffa debut at the final WEC show, being knocked out by an Eddie Wineland slam. After dropping another KO loss to Scott Jorgensen in the UFC, he seemed on the way out, but rebounded with a very impressive win over Donny Walker last September where Stone looked excellent.
